Do You Need Vitamin Nutrition Supplements?

We've all heard about vitamins nutrition supplements and how they are a necessary part of good health. And we've heard that if you eat a balanced diet you don't need them. Well that's true but who eats a balanced diet everyday in our hectic world? Are fast foods part of a healthy diet? No, but we all eat them sometimes. And does anyone eat five servings of vegetables each day? How do you cook them? If you boil them and throw away the water you are losing most of the vitamins and minerals. How many times a week do you eat fish? And what kinds of fish do you eat, tuna, salmon? You should be eating fish that have a high amount of omega-3.

There are substantial claims that even if you eat a balanced diet everyday (my hat is off to you) you still need vitamins nutrition supplements because the soil we grow our food in is depleted. Decades of farming without replenishing our soil has taken a heavy toll on it. It is estimated that in the USA our soil is 85% mineral depleted. This is because modern farming techniques use NPK as fertilizer and although it will grow nice looking vegetables they lack the nutrition we expect. The vegetables are more susceptible to insect attacks so herbicides are used to protect them. But these herbicides also inhibit the microorganisms that are vital to the soil.

We need vitamins to live but without certain minerals we can't process the vitamins. If we don't get these minerals from our food our alternative is to take mineral supplements. Some organic farms are using old standard fertilizing methods and are growing healthier food. You may think that purchasing vegetables at a farmers market is healthier but you must be sure they use organic farming methods otherwise you may as well go to the local supermarket.

So yes, I think we all need to take supplements whether we are young or old as I am. Don't wait until you reach my age (61) and have health problems, take care of yourself now.
